How much does a soul weigh?

leave a comment »

In 1907, Massachusetts physician Duncan MacDougall conjured up a curious experiment. When he observed that a patient at his Haverhill hospital was nearing death, he fitted the patient in a specially assembled bed and measured his weight both before and after death. With six such patient weighings he concluded that humans lose between 0.5 and 1.5 ounces at death.

“Is the soul substance?” he wrote. “It would seem to me to be so. … Here we have experimental demonstration that a substance capable of being weighed does leave the human body at death.”

Experiments on mice and other animals took place. Most notably the weighing upon death of 15 dogs that showed no change in mass, proving, he decided, that dogs have no souls.

MacDougall’s findings were written up briefly in the New York Times and occasioned a flurry of correspondence in American Medicine, but after that they were largely forgotten. What do you think? How much does a soul weigh?

Life: A Human Right!

leave a comment »

What is the greatest human rights question of our time?

Simple?

Should it be permissible to kill human beings because of their location, dependency, stage of development, or burdensomeness to others?

Christian, your answer please!

Christians today are hedging and trimming and tying themselves into intellectual and moral knots in order to hide their embarrassment about being out of step with the so called progressive spirit of the time (culture of death).

In order to oppose political candidates (including a presidential candidate) who explicitly and adamantly support an unlimited legal license to kill the unborn you will need to distinguish yourself from the surrounding pagan society

How embarrassing!

Be of good cheer, Ron

The life & death of Jesus Christ!

Jesus took your punishment upon Himself -“For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3.16-17). Then He rose from the dead and defeated death. Please, repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus, and God will grant you everlasting life. Jesus is alive! Follow Him today!

The following news item touched me this morning (click here). As an advocate for life I was pleased to hear the good report on Amilia Tayor who after four months in a neonatal intensive care unit was going home.

Her claim to fame? She is the world’s most premature living baby, born at 21 weeks and six days. No baby born at less than 23 weeks was previously known to have survived.

When she was born, Amillia weighed 280g and measured 24cm, slightly longer than a ballpoint pen. Now 17 weeks old, Amillia drank from a bottle for the first time this week.

So the good doctors now surmise that she is thriving and well enough to be cared for by her parents at home. “Even though she’s only four pounds now, she’s plump to me,” the baby’s mother, Sonja Taylor said.

Enjoy, ron

Late breaking news: Now I read that Amillia may not go home today (click here). Regardless, I’m happy she’s alive and I’m praying for her! Go girl!
